How to Choose and Test a Gaming DNS

A repeatable method for comparing DNS services on your ISP, device and games without relying on marketing claims.

There is no universal best DNS

Results vary by ISP, location, access network, game and time of day. A resolver that works well for one player may not be the best choice for another.

Create a baseline

Record the current connection time, errors, ping, jitter and packet loss. Change only the DNS setting so the comparison remains meaningful.

Run a fair comparison

When DNS is not the cause

If repeated tests show no improvement, investigate ISP routing, Wi-Fi interference, congestion and server distance.

Takeaway

Choose a DNS through controlled measurements. Repeatable evidence is more useful than a single speed test or a guaranteed-ping claim.
